Educare

Who We Are

Educare South Sudan is a South Sudan National NGO founded by a group of profound secondary school teachers during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was as a result of teachers reaching out to learners and help them continue learning at home.
In the year 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, when schools closed and learners were left with no access to classes or learning materials, a group of dedicated science teachers at Peace Secondary School in Gudele, Juba, took action. They created a WhatsApp group called “Educare” to share notes, engage students, and keep learning alive. Students and parents quickly embraced the effort, transforming it into an active academic forum where short videos, handouts, and Q & A sessions became daily tools for learning. As demand for more structured and scalable digital learning grew, the group received formal recognition from the Ministry of General Education and Instruction and was registered with the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) as a national education-focused organization.
Today, Educare leads the development and implementation of Junub Academy — a South Sudan's first inclusive, culturally rooted and offline-capable e-learning platform. Educare South Sudan is implementing e-learning program in South Sudan by providing learners with an innovative and inclusive learning through various digital learning approaches. Our mission is to harness technology to bridge learning gaps, empower teachers, and bring quality education to every corner of South Sudan, especially for those who need it most. What began as a WhatsApp chat room is now a national movement for educational transformation.

Success Stories

Students' Voices

Eliza Akon Matueny, 21

"Mathematics used to be my worst subject, but now I can solve problems on indices thanks to e-learning. My English has improved too—listening to the video lessons helped a lot. I truly appreciate this opportunity".

Martha Amakou Marial, 19

"I convinced my sister to buy me a tablet and solar charger so I could take my e-learning home. Now I have my teachers in my tablet. I hope this expands to more subjects".

Gabriel Gai

"I used to ask questions in my local language. But with the English language teacher on Junub Academy, I now read and ask questions in English. This program has changed how I learn".

Mary Akon

"My spelling and pronunciation have improved so much. I used to say many words incorrectly, but now I know the right way, thanks to the e-learning English teacher".

Abraham Malual

"I used to hate science, but now I love it. A video using balloons to explain electricity made physics so easy. Now I want more videos like that".

Teachers' Experience

Mr. Akok Peter

Physics Teacher at Horizon Academy

"Before e-learning, my students found my physics lessons boring and abstract. I felt helpless. But after Educare's training and video teaching tools, I could watch myself teaching in the video and make self evaluation. I discovered and corrected my errors and I learned how to use new strategies. I now engage students using videos, group discussions, and visuals—and they enjoy physics. E-learning made me a better teacher".

Mr. Ayom

Chemistry Teacher at Cueibet Secondary School

"This program helped me master difficult topics and select better teaching methods. Without internet, we copied videos to our devices and watched them before teaching. It made us more confident. I encourage expansion to more subjects and hope more teachers get devices to benefit like we have".

Authorities' Voices

Hon. Nelson Makoi

Lakes State Minister of General Education and Instruction

“From what I have witnessed today in Cueibet Secondary School, it is worthy of attention and deserves all forms of support from the Lakes State and National governments. If we are to improve and realize quality education in South Sudan, it is high time the government prioritized investing resources in this form of modern learning”

Hon. Victor Akook Anei

Director General for Inspection and Supervision, National Ministry of General Education and Instruction

“From what I have seen in this classroom presentation and beyond, it has indeed taken my attention and if I were still young and student, I would have decided to become a scientist due to easy access to learning through this e-learning methodology”

Hon. Omot Okony

Director General for the National Curriculum Development Center, Chairman of the Quality Assurance and the Educare e-learning focal person in the Ministry of General Education and Instruction.

“I'm impressed with how students are embracing e-learning in those schools. I was happy to learn their success stories that e-learning was greatly improving their skills from speaking, listening to writing and reading skills”

Community Impact

Deng Ayual Madut

Executive Chief of Noi Ayii Community

“We are the lucky ones to have Warrap Secondary School selected as an e-learning pilot center. This project should be extended to other schools and we the parents will invest in acquiring devices for our children. We are indebted to have this kind of wonderful project. This is why we have welcome you with the oxen slaughtering to cross over as you enter the school. This ceremony signifies that you are extremely important for our children”

Daniel Chiec Gak

Parent

"If this kind of learning exists, we parents will support our children with devices. Now that school fees are covered by the government, we will divert what we used to spend on school fees to invest in our children's learning devices. This initiative deserves national support".

Schools' Voices

Head Teacher

Warrap Secondary School

“This e-learning has improved the enrollment from 25 to 77 students in secondary two class. When students from the neighboring schools heard that the school is piloting this e-learning concept, those students started shifting to the school until when we couldn't allow more because of the classroom space limitations. The project has indeed made school very active and lively like those days”

Head Teacher

Cueibet Secondary School

“E-learning is charging negative attitudes of students towards science subjects and it's very effective in supporting teachers for syllabus coverage”
