Educare South Sudan, through the Junub Academy e-learning platform, is at the forefront of transforming education in South Sudan by expanding access to inclusive, technology-enabled learning. Our work is strongly aligned with the Ministry of General Education and Instruction's (MoGEI) Strategic Plan (2023-2027) and the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services' national digital transformation priorities.
We are carrying out an e-learning program in some states such as Lakes and Warrap States and now expanding to all states and administrative areas of South Sudan. Through the National Ministry of General Education and Instruction (MoGEI) and other partners, we successfully carried out a pilot project in early 2023. The program aims to supplement the learning in Secondary and primary Schools to improve learners' skills and performances.
Educare South Sudan provides supplementary learning in an offline and online methodologies where pre-recorded videos are projected in class for the learners to watch and learn and accessible online via Junub Academy App. The e-learning here is not to replace teachers in secondary and primary schools but to supplement learning. Here, learners can have an uninterrupted learning. Despite any situational circumstance, students can still learn at anytime in any place as they shall be moving with a classroom in their pockets.
Significant Learning Gains: Learners in the two e-learning experimental schools scored an average of 74.06% in post-tests compared to an average of 30.80% in the two traditional control classrooms. The graphs show the comparison of the learning outcomes between experimental and control schools.
Enrollment Surge: S.2 class enrollment increased by 180% in the two pilot schools (112 secondary two students in the two pilot schools benefited)
Enhanced Teacher Capacity: 33 teachers enhanced subject mastery and pedagogy through training and video-based instruction and reflective practice.
Community Endorsement & Parent Engagement: Communities celebrated the pilot with traditional ceremonies - including ox-slaughtering - to express satisfaction and advocate for scale-up. Parents have committed to embrace the Parent for Child Device (PCD) initiative by co-investing in learner access.
2,000+ Active Users: Despite limited content availability, about 2,000 learners and teachers currently engage with the platform daily.
